For the same reason as you became intersted in CAD and stumbeled across MOI. This kind of practice, learning by doing, is the most powerful way to speed up your growth.Am by no means a CAD modeler - so take this with a grain of salt. Try adding new solids instead of subtracting. Experiment with the process I’ve shown here. That’s it! You’ve created your very own, erm, techno cheese, thing. Selecting the top and bottom edges, create small fillets. Chamfers are like fillets, they cut a flat plane instead of rounding an edge. This process of filleting corners and other edges is very helpful. Make adjustments to the radius size until you have something like step 9. Note: if the fillet radius is too large the fillet will error and not complete. You can make adjustments to the radius of the fillet in the command options palette. From the command palette, select the Fillet command. Hold Shift and click on more edges until your selections appear like step 8. Hover your mouse over the selected solid and click on one of the edges. Workspaces: These are the viewports you draw in and the area where you get to see the model as you make it. The options that appear make navigation around your model easy so you can position your view just right as you model. Workspace Controls: This area pops up when you’re mouse is hovering in that viewport. The command options area offers information to assist you in accurately using the chosen tool. Everything you model starts with choosing a tool here.Ĭommand Options: Once you select a tool from the Command Palette, you’ll notice this section changes. You can pick different options depending on if you want to draw a 2d element or a 3d element. You can assign parts of your model to a different object layer, change its colour, and hide that object group to help with modelling more complex projects.Ĭommand Palette: This is the central area of MoI 3D. Scene Browser: This is similar to layers in other programs. I will be sharing my hotkeys in another article as well. This is also where you can create your own hotkeys to speed up your workflow. Software Options: Clicking the Options gear opens a pop-up with general settings for MoI. Note: Hovering your mouse over the Object Snap Button reveals an arrow that if clicked unrolls options for what kind of objects you want to snap to. Snap Controls: Turning these options on allow help modellers snap their drawn elements exactly where they need them. In fact, you can click and enter specific values for angle or distance here to create perfect rotations and/or lengths. This area exists to assist 3d modellers in very accurate modelling. What does all this mean? Well, for most creative uses you don’t have to worry about it. Distance and angle from a previous point selection (mouse click) are also shown. Point, Distance, & Angle Controls: This area displays the coordinates of the mouse position. Alternatively, you can select individual views and expand the viewport to focus only on the select view. Viewport Configuration Options: Control viewport display to show a split view (as shown above) with top, perspective, front, and side views. Conversion to polygons via FBX export produces the best nurb to poly conversions to date. Special Note: The export tools inside MoI are excellent.
